Camel Race Night:
If you missed the camel race night what an exciting night it turned out to be. The owners of the camels Paddy Rock and Brendan Morrissey had all the camels fed and ready for their races. The jockeys looked a bit nervous at the start but after a race or two were fairly eager to win. First off saw many a man who thought he could outdo his rival jockeys, but the swiftness of the wrist told the winner in each race. The ladies were not shy either and were very keen to win. The five bookies had a very busy night as each punter was very willing to place bets on their "sure to win camel". Paddy and Brendan kept the crowd entertained with their quick wit throughout the night.
There was a Grand Final which saw camels and jockeys being auctioned to the highest bidder and this brought great excitement among the crowd. This race, when the flag was raised brought everyone to their feet. After a photo-finish the outright winner was Anne Marie Monahan, Prospect, Headford, Co. Galway. Her family were elated at her success - some taking to the floor jumping for joy. For photos of the night see below.
The committee would like to thank The Anglers Rest Hotel, Headford for their support on the night and also all sponsors who very kindly sponsored individual races.
